Nutcase has introduced the innovative VIO Commute helmet to the cycling helmet market. LED lights circle the helmet, and safety is maximized by the MIPS protection system.

On the stylish helmet the front light is white (200 lumen), the sides orange (65 lumen) and the rear red (65 lumen). The 360-degree rotating lights make the cyclist easily visible in dim and dark conditions. They have three operating modes: bright, fast flashing and gently dimming and brightening. The appropriate mode is selected by the button on the back of the helmet, and switching can be done while riding. The light ensures that other road users notice the cyclist in good time.

The VIO Commute helmet features a unique patented Exoskeleton shell structure. In addition to being extremely lightweight, the helmet has a dual-layer Duo Density EPS foam inside the shell. These features together protect the head effectively in the event of an accident. The helmet is the lightest on the market equipped with 360-degree visibility LED lights. The MIPS system between the padding and the shell effectively cushions especially side and oblique impacts. The helmet holds CPSC / CE safety certifications.

Style and comfort still at the center

The helmet is easy to use, as the magnetic Snap & Go Fidlock chin strap fastening works with one hand. Comfort is also provided by adjustable antibacterial pads and a size micro-adjustment wheel. Excess heat is vented out through nine air vents.

There is no need to compromise on style either; the clean-lined helmet fits in larger metropolises and is available in several color options. The VIO Commute is ideal for commuting and leisure riding for teenagers, young adults and older adults. The helmet comes with a stylish removable visor that creates a sporty look if desired.

The MIPS system transfers rotational motion

MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection System) originated from the idea of Swedish neurosurgeon Hans von Holst. In his work he saw many brain and neck injuries that had occurred despite helmet use. He partnered with Peter Halldin, a junior research engineer at the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. MIPS AB was founded in 2001, and over the years the company has produced more than 180 patents related to helmet technologies.

MIPS protects the brain particularly from sideways, oblique and rotational impacts. If the helmet cannot move on impact on the rider’s head, rotational motion continues strongly inside the brain after the collision. It is precisely the rotational motion that causes many brain injuries, and MIPS reduces it by means of a moving inner surface of the helmet. Thanks to MIPS, the brain experiences up to 50% less impact than with a helmet without it.

Nutcase Winter Liner - a new warming accessory for winter cyclists

As an accessory for Nutcase helmets the Nutcase Winter Liner padding is available, an innovative thermal protector. It is advisable to replace the helmet pads with the Winter Liner for the winter season. The warm and windproof lining is made of pleasant microfleece. The flexible lining extends far down the neck and also keeps the throat warm.

Traffic safety has also been taken into account in the Winter Liner, as the mesh fabric over the ears allows traffic sounds to reach the cyclist’s ears. Safety is enhanced by a woven, highly visible 3M reflector in the fabric. Long-haired riders are accommodated with a ponytail opening.
